I've written in the past about Disney Channel's now-canceled "Andi Mack" television program (here and here). I haven't written anything about former "Andi Mack" actor Stoney Westmoreland getting arrested just over a year ago and charged with felony child sex abuse charges. Frankly, I found it terribly depressing that an actor that I liked from a sitcom that I was enjoying would get caught up in something like this.
But here's the nutshell: Then 48-year-old Stoney Westmoreland was arrested on 12/13/18 and charged with attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, enticing a minor, and four counts of dealing in harmful material to a minor. According to media reports, Westmoreland began chatting at some point in the past with a 13-year-old minor (AKA an undercover detective) on Grindr. He reportedly asked if the fictional minor would like to come to his hotel and have sex. He reportedly sent three picts of his penis and one pic of men having sex to the fictional minor. Westmoreland reportedly sent a vehicle to pick up the fictional minor and he was arrested shortly afterwords. Disney fired him pretty much immediately and he's been edited out of "Andi Mack" episodes wherever they can and they've pretty much gotten rid of the episodes where it was impossible to edit him out.
Westmoreland was eventually released to his home while he awaits trial. In the meantime, he has a probation officer, wears an ankle bracelet, and he's pretty much stuck at home full-time and subject to various restrictions.
Periodically, I've read articles about his judge and the prosecutor becoming increasingly annoyed by Westmoreland's perceived noncompliance with the terms of his pre-trial probation. Westmoreland has accused Judge Howard Nielson Jr. of being unable to be impartial due to reports that he'd represented anti-gay advocates in the past. Judge Nielson rejected those claims.
However, Westmoreland is doing stupid stuff that would get anyone else tossed in jail -- if what I'm reading it correct. For example, he was ordered to provide an inventory of his digital media to the court by sometime in September 2019. He missed that deadline, arguing that he's used to other people handling paperwork for him so it didn't get done.
Also, he and his boyfriend apparently rent out a room within his home. Pretrial officers need access to all areas of his home, but couldn't gain access to the roommate's home in October and November 2019. Reportedly, the roommate didn't realize that he was supposed to allow them access and it definitely seems like a nag. But once again, it's his responsibility to communicate meet this requirement and he was very slow and ineffective with communicating this requirement to his roommate.
As a result of these probation violations, Westmoreland was sent to jail this weekend. He should be released from jail sometime tomorrow.
Westmoreland's hearing is scheduled to begin on March 30, 2020.
