Want to work at U-Haul? Quit nicotine quickly! Starting next months, U-Haul plans to stop hiring potential employees in 21 states if they use pretty much any tobacco products. This new screening process is part of the company's new wellness program, which is heavily invested in nicotine cessation. And it's not just cigarettes. U-Haul's nicotine-free policy would deny employment to anyone using chew, nicotine gum, nicotine lozenges, nicotine patches, or vaping products -- and presumably cigars.
Then again, puff away if you're one of the company's current employees. They won't be affected by U-Haul's nicotine-free policy.
The states where U-Haul's new policy will go into effective include: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
