They have been building up to this tragedy for weeks. Carla needed to make some repairs to the Underground, but was struggling to keep things functioning. Well aware that there were major problems with the roof, Carla gambled that it would hold together -- against the advise of her contractor Gary.
Meanwhile, "Corrie" ratcheted up the vilification of Carla by putting her at odds against a variety of men in the neighborhood. Robert was mad at her because he blamed Carla for his break-up with Michelle. Her absentee business partner Nick was upset because he finally paid attention to Underground long enough to realize that Carla was completely restructuring the business without any input from him -- or benefit to him. Peter was upset with her -- well, I'm still not sure. He can't figure out if he loves her or not. Gary is upset because he hasn't been fully paid up yet. And Seb is just angry these days and wants to cause trouble for Gary! Meanwhile, the Underground factory employees just learned that Carla was going to outsource many of their jobs so they stormed the factory and began an impromptu strike!
Unfortunately, they began their strike right after some saboteur -- Robert, Nick, Peter, Gary, or Seb -- sneaked onto the roof and cause enough damage to bring down the roof. And down it fell -- along with poor Sally!
The first half-hour of riveting as the the people of Coronation Street pulled together to rescue the Underground strikers from the destroyed factory. And everything looked great until we realized that Rana had sneaked into the factory to get her handbag right before the building collapsed! Now she lay trapped in Carla's office until tons of concrete and steel!
Did I mention that it's Rana and Kate's wedding today? I had totally forgotten the "Coronation Street" was killing off Rana Habeeb on her wedding day!! Tonight's second episode focused on the community banding together and praying for Rana's rescue, while she lay on the ground speaking to her lovely bride Kate?? Kate managed (somehow) to get into the factory and exchange vows and rings moments before Rana finally succumbed to her injuries.
It was a hard ten minutes as Kate cradled Rana's lifeless body. Meanwhile, Carla was sobbing in solitude -- fully recognizing that she was to blame for her half-sister's bride. And poor Imran, Rana's brother, standing lost and forlorn as his sister lay lifeless in the ruins.
Thus, we have seen the end of #Kana. I wasn't their biggest fan, but this romantic relationship has endured for most of my "Corrie" viewing history. It is difficult to watch it come to an end.
