There is a 49 second video circulating today from an episode of "Good Morning Britain." In it, co-host Piers Morgan goes on a rant after accusing a university journalism program of banning the use of capital letters "in case they upset students."

From the video:
Piers Morgan: The university bosses at Leeds Trinity School of Journalism... This is unbelievable. There's are journalist students, right? They banned lecturers from using capital letters when assigning work to the students out of fear it might upset them.

Female Co-Host: Why?

Piers Morgan: The staff at Leeds Trinity School of Journalism have been told to write in a helpful warm tone avoiding officious language and negative instruction. Some have blasted the move at more academic mollycoddling. You think?

Female Co-Host: Ooh, careful! That upset me there.

Other Female Co-Host: I felt like it was all in capital letters, that...

Piers Morgan: I would like to apologize to any students who are offended by my raised tone there and slight element of negativity. Can you believe that? You can't use capital letters when assigning work to students in case they get upset. What are we doing?
Of course, the comments section was filled with all sorts of snotty people calling the university students snowflakes and the lecturers coddlers.

Meanwhile, Leeds Trinity University has asserted that they never banned capital letters. Instead, they issued recommendations to their lecturers on how use best practices for communicating assignments and course materials with students:

In other words, NOT TYPING LIKE THIS ALL OF THE TIME.

Then again, lecturers are free to use capital letters. And lecturers are even allowed to use capitalization or EMPHASIS WORDS.

In other words, the British media did a bunch of clickbait to misdirect readers about professional communications between the university and its lecturers. The readers then reacted with ridicule and hostility against the students and the lecturers -- who, to be fair, had NOTHING to do with the original memo.
