Wyoming Trans Woman Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Girl in Family's Home

I was online last night and stumbled across a new article that reported about a trans woman who was convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl in a bathroom. Given the hysteria that's been whipped up against trans-inclusive public bathroom bills, I decided to get more information than the headline and Facebook link provided. It turns out that it's pretty much true, even if the headline evokes images of a male-predator-dressed-as-a-woman stalking a young child in a public bathroom.

The truth, though still tragic, is a little more typical. Michelle Martinez (AKA Miguel Martinez) was visiting the home of a family friend in Casper, WY, back in March 2017. Martinez invited the 10-year-old girl into the bathroom of the family's home. Martinez then fondled the girl and penetrated the child.

The child immediately told her mother, who reported the assault to the police. She was taken to a nearby medical center, where they found physical evidence of the sexual assault.

Martinez denied that the assault happened, saying that the girl was "talking crap" and claimed that the accusations were a "publicity stunt." Martinez was also drunk that night and had a blood alcohol level of .218.

Last week, Martinez was found guilty last week of first- and second-degree-sexual assault of a minor and faces up to 70 years in prison.
