The past week has been extremely busy so even though I've watched the latest episode of "Riverdale," I haven't had the opportunity to write much about it. This show continues to excite me, and it apparently continues to excite the fans as the ratings remain high -- though not as high as the second season premier episode.

Here are some of the highlights:

Pop's Chock'Lit Shoppe is just about to close. Apparently, Fred Andrews' shooting was enough to chase away his customers. Betty decides to take it upon herself to save Pop's -- which is a recent and annoying trope that's appeared at least twice in recent months in the various Archie Comics comic books. But what's a trope if you can't exploit it? Betty starts channeling her inner bitch and manages to get Cheryl Blossom, the Pussycats, and the Vixens to help out with a benefit event, which actually goes very well!

Pop Tate manages to save the restaurant with a little help from her friend -- plus the Lodges' money. It turns out that Hiram Lodge bought out the restaurant and promised to keep Pop Tate in place as its manager. But Veronica doesn't need to know that little detail...

One of Betty's schemes was to save FP Jones from a lifetime in prison. She blackmailed Cheryl Blossom into testifying on his behalf, saying that her father had forced him to cover up his crimes with threats over Jughead's life. FP isn't out of jail yet, but it's looking more likely right now.

You would think that FP Jones would be happy about Cheryl's testimony. But he's not. It seems that Jughead got the idea from someone named Penny Peabody. Penny Peabody is a "snake-charmer." She started as a Southside Serpent before going to law school in order to better serve the Serpents. She didn't charge Jughead for her services as a favor to FP. Of course, now FP Jones (or maybe just Jughead) owes her -- and I don't think that Penny Peabody is someone whom you want to owe favors to!

Remember the Black Hood? He's still missing and he's got Fred Andrews' wallet. Archie is worried that the Black Hood will come back to finish off what he originally started, especially after learning of Ms. Grundy's murder. Archie isn't sleeping. He's doing everything that he can to protect his family from the mysterious gunman -- even resorting to some illegal drug procurement courtesy of Reggie Mantle. He ends up buying a gun illegally from Dilton Doiley -- which finally gives him to peace of mind to catch some sleep.

Lastly, "Riverdale" finally introduces us to Midge Klump in this issue!

Sadly, Midge and Moose end up meeting their makers at the end of this episode. The two were doing some jingle jangle and making out when their car was approached by the Black Hood. Several shots later and one of Archie Comics' longest running romantic pair was brutally shot down!

OMG! What is up with the Black Hood? First Fred Andrews. Then Ms. Grundy. Now Moose Mason and Midge Klump. Though I can't help but wonder if Pop Tate was the Black Hood's originally intended victim... Is the Black Hood really going after Archie's loved ones, or is he actually targeting something else? All I know is that the previous make me nervous for the future of Ethel Muggs!
