Des Moines Man Cited after Hiding Pet Goat from Animal Control Officers

I learned something new today. I already knew that it's okay to raise chickens within the city limits of Des Moines, IA. But it's illegal to raise a goat within the city limits of Des Moines, IA.

Last Thursday, animal control officers were notified of a "goat running loose" in a Des Moines neighborhood. The responding officer arrived in the area and eventually identified the goat in question.

The goat -- identified in the comments section of this article as William (yes, I'm being serious) -- was in the yard of Lonny Kirschbaum. Kirschbaum refused to surrender his goat and helped William escape from the animal control officer into his home.

Kirschbaum was later discovered sneaking William out of the house and hiding behind a car. William was then taken into custody by the animal control officer. Kirschbaum was cited for illegally keeping a goat within city limits. This was not the first time that he has been cited on this issue.
