For whatever reason, I decided to check out Iowa's unemployment numbers. According to Iowa Workforce Development, we're doing pretty well -- especially when compared to the national unemployment numbers.
Iowa's unemployment numbers dropped from 5.1% in October 2012 to 4.9% in November 2012. That's compared to a drop in national unemployment numbers from 7.9% in October 2012 to 7.7% in November 2012.
Iowa City is down from 3.1% unemployment in October 2012 to 2.8% in November 2012 while Johnson County as a whole is down 3.3% in October 2012 to 3.2% in November 2012.
Glancing down the list, it appears that Ames and Iowa City are tied for the lowest unemployment numbers for listed Iowa cities in November 2012 (2.8%), while Kossoth County and Story County both tie for lowest unemployment numbers for an Iowa county in November 2012 (3.1%).
Meanwhile, Ottumwa has the highest unemployment number for the listed Iowa cities in November 2012 (6.7%), while Lee County appears to have the highest unemployment number for an Iowa county in November 2012 (7.6%).
High or low, it appears that most areas in Iowa experienced decreased unemployment numbers, which is good.
