I was reading a really cool interview by Robot 6 with Archie Comics Co-CEO Jon Goldwater about 2012 and what is ahead for the publishing company in 2013. It's really worth the read. Among other things, Goldwater revealed that Archie Comics has a Kevin Keller novel in the works for early 2013:
There’s going to be a Kevin Kellernovel, written by Paul Kupperberg and released in April of next year by Penguin, through the Penguin Young Reader program. We are partnering with Penguin on this thing; they are going to release it but hopefully we will help them drive the publicity. I know when Gay Pride Month hits in June there are going to be all sorts of events around it.A quick check of Penguin's website comes up with the following book summary:
Kevin: Kevin Keller is the first openly gay character in the history of Archie Comics and currently stars in his own best-selling series of comic books. In this special paper-over-board novel, we focus on Kevin’s early, awkward years and the struggles and joys of his inspirational road to self-discovery. This sweet and funny coming of age story features a strong anti-bullying message and is a perfect gift for Archie fans, parents, and anyone who has—or is—struggling to find their place.I am assuming that this will be a more traditional novel -- written in novel format instead of with pictures and word balloons.
