Amber, IA: Infamous "Hula Hoop Tree" Chopped Down Because Fans Kept Trespassing in Neighboring Fields

Earlier this week, I wrote that the infamous Hula Hoop Tree was at risk for becoming an indirect victim of the coronavirus. I'm not implying that the tree is at risk from acquiring the virus. I'm saying that too many people were bored from sheltering in place and instead visiting the tree. Which led to increased traffic around the tree. Which also resulted in people climbing over the nearby fence and exploring the neighboring field -- which is private property.

The people of Amber, IA, warned their fellow Iowans via social media that they needed to stay out of the field. We were warned that things needed to stop trespassing in those fields or else the tree would have to be chopped down.

Well...

The Amber Iowa Hula Hoop Tree Facebook page posted this message earlier this morning:
It is with very mixed feelings and heavy hearts that we have to post that Her Majesty will now just live in the memories, photographs, & videos of all who've visited. Like the COVID-19 situation that we've all been enduring, decisions & actions are implemented for the safety of the public. We will miss her VERY MUCH, but we are relieved that She's been taken down before any tragedy befell a visitor. #AmberIowaHulaHoopTreeForever ❤
The Hula Hoop Tree survived a lightning strike. It survived a fire. It survived scores of hula hoops hanging from its branches. But it couldn't survive the COVID-19 pandemic.

Incidentally, just in case you thought about rushing out to see the Hula Hoop Tree one final time before it suffered from the chop... Don't bother:

Goodbye Hula Hoop Tree! You made your mark on the world and you will be missed.
