Meet the New Josie and the Pussycats!

It was great to watch a new episode of "Katy Keene" again last night on The CW. It was an interesting episode broken down (for the most part) into three chunks, each focusing on a different cast member -- and then ending with yet another reveal about Pepper's secret and scandalous past.

Katy's ongoing journey towards becoming a famous designer was interesting, but probably my least favorite aspect of the episode.

And I was left scratching my head over Jorge's boredom over his relationship with hunky firefighter Bernardo and his renewed fascination with ex-boyfriend Buzz. The three ended up getting drunk and then having a threesome -- which might actually be the first queer threesome on network television! Jorge woke up next to both men and immediately recognized that he'd made a huge mistake. Which, of course, it was. I mean, if you're already looking at mixing things up in a relationship after a handful of weeks then your relationship really needs a lot of work. IMHO, as always!

And Pepper continues to fascinate me with her myriad secret scams. I find her to be the most compelling character of this entire program. And last night we found out that she has a secret wife who really, really hates her and who really, really wants to create chaos in her life. And this show could really use some chaos!

But I'm actually writing today about former "Riverdale" diva, Josie McCoy! Back in "Riverdale," Josie used to lead a girl band called the Pussycats alongside Valerie Brown and Melody Valentine. The Pussycats had some interesting adventures and even brought Veronica Lodge into the group for a short while. "Riverdale" tried recreating the Archie/Valerie romance from the comic books, which never seemed to have much of a spark. And poor Melody hardly ever had a line.

Eventually, Josie began focusing on her own single career and the Pussycats broke up. Sadly, we haven't heard from either Valerie or Melody since then.

But Josie stuck around long enough to sing some of her own songs and to abandon Riverdale for the safer streets of New York City. She now lives with Katy Keene and Jorge Lopez and is working hard to make a name for herself in music.  Josie was discovered almost immediately by Alexander Cabot III. He became her manager and her lover and promised to transform her into a music legend using his father's money and resources.

Mr. Cabot decided that Josie was at her best when she sang in a girl band, so he decided to recreating the Pussycats with a whole new batch of girls. Of course, neither of the Pussycats that he brought in could sing or play instruments. But they were smoking.

Josie decided to host an audition and create her own authentic band of Pussycats! And she did indeed come up with a smoking hot band featuring newcomers Cricket and Trula Twyst! Cricket is a plus-sized keyboardist with a beautiful voice and mad case of stage fright. And Trula is a rocking drummer with a social conscience and a need for cash.

The new Pussycats actually have a pretty good sound during their first jam session -- but not good enough for Mr. Cabot who insists on bringing back his original choices. Josie decides that she is completely into this new band and walks away from the Cabot family and their money.

I really do like these new Pussycats and I hope that they stick around for a while. And I hope that Trula and Cricket get the chance to stand out on their own in ways that Valerie and definitely Melody never got to do back in "Riverdale."
