Earlier today, I had this video playing in the background for about twenty minutes while doing some data entry. It's one of Jeremiah Raber's videos. He was going to have some of his "Breaking Amish"/"Return to Amish" co-stars on the video -- though they struggled enough with the technology that I finally gave up. Which makes sense since they're a bunch of former Amish, but it's not terribly engaging as social media goes.
One thing that struck me was a cryptic comment by Jeremiah about one of his former co-stars getting arrested recently. He was being pretty cagey about it and didn't give up the name while I was on, although he noted that it was one of the guys from the latest "Return to Amish" season. In other words, Lowell Hoover.
So I did some googling and quickly came up with a few news articles related to Lowell Hoover's arrest -- which scarily involves him threatening a state troopers with a knife and a handgun(!!).
First off, MERF 95.7 Radio reported early last month about the 23-year-old former Mennonite's arrest. It apparently happened on 01/22/20. According to that report, state troopers had been searching for Hoover. He initially threatened them with a knife. And after being told to drop the knife, he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the troopers. Shockingly, Hoover survived the encounter and was successfully arrested.
More recently, The Daily Item offered more details about the arrest. The two Pennsylvania state police troopers had confronted Hoover at his home. He'd initially answered the door holding the knife, but quickly dropped it and tried to back into his home. He was then partially restrained by one of the troopers when it was discovered that he was also holding a semi-automatic handgun in his right hand.
Hoover reportedly told the police as he was being taken into custody, "You're lucky I didn't pull the trigger."
Hoover was charged with two count each of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor possessing instruments of a crime as well as obstructing the administration of law and resisting arrest. As of 02/19/20, he was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail pending a preliminary hearing.
I'm still not sure why the state troopers were looking for him in the first place!
Regardless, it's unlikely that we'll be seeing Lowell on another season of "Return to Amish" anytime soon!
