A gay couple is speaking out after an Uber driver called the police on them and accused them of trafficking their infant son. James Moed and his husband had traveled to San Diego and arranged for a ride to their hotel late at night.
And then the Uber driver called 911 and accused the couple of human trafficking their son. At 1:30 AM, officers from the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department knocked at their hotel room and demanded to see their photo IDs and passports. Fortunately, the police were satisfied that all was well. But the family was freaked out afterwards and unable to sleep.
Moen and his husband complained to Uber and received a $10 refund. But the couple wanted more. They requested an apology from their Uber driver and evidence of an LGBTQ training program. It wasn't just that the Uber driver called 911 on them, but during the ride the driver had told them that their crying infant "needed his mother" and had insisted that it was wrong that the baby has two dads.
As of this past weekend, the couple had not received any apology or assurances that their drivers are receiving any LGBTQ training. So now they are encouraging Pride groups to reject corporate sponsoring from Uber.
