I've written before about my involvement with the Midsomer Murders Facebook Group. There's this article circulating that asserts that loyal fans are "quickly" abandoning "Midsomer Murders" because actor Neil Dudgeon replaced John Nettles. Which caused me to scoff because Dudgeon has been the lead actor on the program since 2011. So if people are "quickly" abandoning the program, they're certainly taking their time about it!
Anyway, the comments dragged on a bit and I remembered this old meme that was created by another group member that suggested that a new Barnaby cousin was taking over -- Hathaway Barnaby to be precise. Hathaway Barnaby is played by actor Mark Benton who actually portrayed Frank Hathaway in BBC's "Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators."
This Hathaway Barnaby meme is an obvious fake. But people have gone nuts about it. Most people think that it's horrible idea. That Neil Dudgeon needs to stay on "Midsomer." That Mark Benton needs to stay on "Shakespeare & Hathaway." That John Nettles needs to return to "Midsomer." That Hathaway Barnaby is the most horrible casting decision in the history of casting decisions!
It doesn't matter how much I remind people that this is a joke meme. They believe that it's real news.
So I played around with some images and came up with my own casting meme involving DI Ben Jones (formerly of "Midsomer Murders") as portrayed by Jason Hughes. According to my meme, Ben Jones is coming the Saint Marie Island from "Death in Paradise!" I even made good use of alliteration to make it clear that this is a joke.
This meme has been quite popular. It's managed to secure 323 likes since I first posted it six hours ago and most people are getting that this is a joke. But not all!
