I decided that I better report on the final results of the Iowa Caucuses. 100% of the state precincts finally got their caucus results in and Mayor Pete Buttigieg squeaked ahead with 26.2% of the delegates.
Senator Bernie Sanders ended with 26.1% of the delegates and they were followed by Senator Elizabeth Warren, former Vice President Joe Biden, and Senator Amy Klobuchar.
Essentially though, Mayor Pete and Bernie tied at the end with 11 delegates each. Warren got 5 delegates, Biden got 2 delegates, and Klobuchar got 1 delegate.
Of course, the Iowa Democratic Caucuses were a mess so the Iowa Democratic Party is recanvassing each of the districts. So we actually see different results by this time next week -- but I really don't think so. If anything, Mayor Pete and Bernie might swap a few numbers here and there while still maintaining their delegate count. But we shall see...
Meanwhile, I haven't blogged at all about what happened in Cresco during the Caucuses. Have I mentioned that I have family near Cresco and that I grew up near there? This video went viral last week. It involved a Cresco woman who signed off on her final card for Mayor Pete -- and then realized that he's a married gay man. And she wasn't having it. She wanted her vote negated and she wanted to recast her vote.
She had originally come to caucus for Senator Klobuchar, but ended up switching to Mayor Pete after Klobuchar failed to meet viability during her precinct's initial alignment. I was honestly shocked to know that the woman was successful in her effort to undo her Mayor Pete vote and instead switched her final vote to Elizabeth Warren. Which was my Caucus pick after Julian Castro dropped out of the race. But I thought that once you signed your card, you were locked in. But apparently not.
Mayor Pete was asked about the Caucus-goer from Cresco and this is what he had to say about it:

I'm sad to see that it doesn’t seem that she reached her, but I also think that that is part of what change looks like — deep real change is looking people eye to eye and engaging them with compassion.Which was ten times more gracious and presidential than anything coming out of the White House these days.
