The War on Christmas erupted late this season in Iowa City as neighbors fought neighbors over Halloween decorations on Christmas Eve.
At 5:30 PM on Christmas Eve, an Iowa City heard noises outside of his apartment. When she opened her front door, she discovered that her decorations had been ripped from the entranceway. It seems that she'd decorated her apartment doorway with plastic Halloween tape, which was now ripped down. She'd also left a handwritten notes on her door and that too had been ripped off, crumpled, and thrown to the ground.
The woman called the police to file a complaint -- but not before reviewing security video. According to the security video, one of her neighbors was seen standing at her doorway and taking actions that appeared to show him tearing off the plastic Halloween tape, which was incidentally valued at $1.
The 58-year-old neighbor admitted to tearing down the Halloween tape, telling the police that he'd gotten upset with the woman after she'd flipped him off earlier in the day.
He was arrested and charged with 5th Degree Criminal Mischief, which is a simple misdemeanor. If convicted, he faces up to 30 days in jail.
