Group of Pastors Seeking to Overturn Same-Sex Marriage in Tennessee

Late last week, the Tennessee Independent Baptists for Religious Liberty (TIBRL) and eleven individual ministers filed a lawsuit against the Tennessee Department of Health challenging the legality of same-sex marriage. That's right, a group of ministers if trying to invalidate same-sex marriages over four years after gay and lesbian couples began marrying within the state of Tennessee.

But the group wants you to know that they believe that marriage can only be between one man and one woman and that their religious liberties are impinged by marriages made up of two men or two women. And they also don't like how the state's Certificate of Marriage form is now written. Ultimately, they believe that the US Supreme Court lacked the authority to override Tennessee's DOMA law and constitutional amendment defining marriage as one male/one female. And they want the Department of Health to reinstate the Certificate of Marriage form that existed in Tennessee prior to 06/26/15.
