I was just reading an article about a Republican-led outreach effort in Pennsylvania to gain new voters from a pool of religious conservatives who typically never vote. Those potential Trump voters?
The Amish.
The outreach project is called Amish PAC. Amish PAC has been working to build up the number of Amish voters since 2016 -- relying on billboards and newspaper advertisements and door-to-door motor voter efforts.
The problem is that most Amish and traditional Mennonites have been culturally conditioned to avoid voting. In fact, less than 1% of the 75,000+ Amish in Pennsylvania voted for President George W. Bush back in 2004 and that was after years of him courting their favor.
But Republicans are betting that the Amish would be all over Trump if given half a chance.
