There's this public arts project happening all over Lincoln, NE, called Serving Hands. Serving Hands features all sorts of six-feet-tall fiberglass hand sculpture. There are 39 of them altogether. The whole thing is supposed to celebrate an organization called Campus Life, which serves local youth. The sculptures were displayed starting this past spring and will eventually be auctioned off in October 2019.
One of the sculptures is inspired by Marvel Comics'Spider-Man. This particular sculpture has been displayed on the corner of 27th and Capital Parkway in Lincoln. The artist, Ian Anthony Laing, noted that his favorite super-hero has always been Spider-Man so he decided to inspire others with his artistic skills.
Except that not everyone is a fan of Spider-Man. One woman from Lincoln recently emailed the city's mayor and demanded that the city remove that particular status due to its demonic nature:
Fortunately, the mayor has Spidey's back. So don't expect the removal of that particular statue -- at least until it gets auctioned off to the highest bidder!!

"It is a sculpture of two hands open, painted Red & Black, and formed into Devil Horns," she wrote in an email Friday, calling the art anti-Christian, demonic, and completely inappropriate for showcase near a family attraction. She demanded the city move the 6-foot Spider-Man sculpture because it's ugly, perverse and a "hate crime against the church."Seriously, I'm wondering if she's related to J. Jonah Jameson!!
