Husband Mark and I were watching the local news tonight and waiting for the weather forecast. The newscast started with the following story about community feelings about the Cedar Rapids Police Department. This lead in had both Mark and I chuckling:
However, the problem with the survey is that it only surveyed registered voters with email access. Plus those who participated in the survey were disproportionately whiter, richer, and better educated statistically than the actual city of Cedar Rapids -- and that group of people tends to be more favorable towards the police. According to this report, 92% of those who responded to the survey were white and more than half have college education
There is the potential for another survey -- one where they strive better to find a more proportionate sample of respondents. Potentially.
The Cedar Rapids police chief is pleased with the results of a new study. It shows most positive attitudes toward the city's officers.... *noticeable pause* Except by minorities! It seems that Mount Mercy University performed a study on behalf of the Cedar Rapids Police Department in an effort to see how the community felt about the police. Most of those who participated in the survey -- a whopping 73% -- said that they are satisfied with the police.
