I was watching the local news this evening and found myself reminded that Trekfest XXXV is happening this weekend in nearby Riverside, Iowa!  For those who don't know, Riverside is the official future birth place of Captain James T. Kirk from the "Star Trek" TV and movie franchise and Trekfest is an annual celebration of his eventual birth! Trekfest is a combination of Trekkie fanboyishness mixed with small-town charm.

The theme for this summer's Trekfest is "Aliens of Star Trek!!" To highlight the aliens of Star Trek, Trekfest XXXV's special guest will be actress and stuntwoman Sandra Gimpel!! Gimpel appeared twice on the original Star Trek series, where she played the Salt Monster and a Talosian! Not only will Gimpel appear in the Trekfest Parade on Saturday, June 29th, but she will judge the Costume Contest and give a speech about her professional experiences later in the afternoon!
