"She-Ra and the Princesses of Power": Bow Has Two Daddies!!

The second season of Netflix's "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power" dropped yesterday. I decided to check out an episode today after returning from the grocery store. Which led to another episode. And then another. Cut to the chase: I've watched all seven episodes today!

Second season has been great! She-Ra is still learning about her new magical abilities. The newly reunified Princess Alliance is working out all of their kinds. And Catra is struggling to stay on Hordak's good side -- and not succeeding!

But it was the seventh episodes, titled "Reunion," that really got me excited.

For those who don't know, "She-Ra" is set on the planet Eternia. Eternia is split up between various kingdoms and each kingdom is represented by a magical Princess. Each princess has magical powers. For example, Glimmer has teleportation abilities, Mermista has control over water, Perfuma has power over plants, etc...

And then there are two male members of the Alliance who don't have any powers at all. Bow is the primary male member of the Princess Alliance. He's a keen archer, a great fighter, and has a talent for understanding weapons and technology. He's best friends with Adora/She-Ra and Glimmer and fights alongside them in pretty much every episode.

And after episodes of learning about the various Princesses and their homelands, we finally learned about Bow's origins. It turns about that Bow has two dads!

Bow's dads (named George and Lance) are pacifist historians who settled in Whispering Woods with Bow and their twelve other sons. They have raised Bow to become a historian and to eventually take over their library when they retire. Oh, and they have rejected the Princess Alliance and their ongoing war against the Horde!

Of course, Bow is all about the Rebellion and doesn't want to become an historian. And he's all about the Princess Alliance. So he's concocted an elaborate lie. He's told his dads that he's studying with Adora and Glimmer at a boarding school called the Academy of Historic Enterprises.

Of course, Bow is miserable. He doesn't want to hurt his fathers, so he maintains this personal fiction. But maintaining this unsustainable lie is completely stressing him out. Glimmer finally convinces Bow to come out to his parents and to trust them enough to work through their initial disappointment -- and a brief battle with a robotic bug monster!

Sure enough, George and Lance completely support their son and his life as a soldier for the Rebellion and his friendship with the various Princesses. In fact, they immediately invite his besties in for a family hug!

One of the things that I enjoy about the "She-Ra" reboot is its willingness to unapologetically play around with different body types, gender fluidity, and sexual orientation. And Bow's dads are no exception. George and Lance seem like wonderful parents and they clearly love and support their son. I really hope that we get to see more of them once Season 2 resumes later this year.
