I've gotten behind again with my TLC reality TV shows recently, including "I Am Jazz." I'm finally watching the 10th episode of the current. Apparently, she finally meets Ahmir's mother and comes to some sort of crossroads within their relationship. Not really sure what happens. I've done a good job of avoiding spoilers and I'm not that far into the episode yet.
(UPDATE AS I CONTINUE TO VERY SLOWLY WRITE THIS POST AND SIMULTANEOUSLY WATCH THE EPISODE: Looks like this particular episode is this episode. So I've seen the big clip already. I ended up skipping ahead to episode 11 and learned that Jazz and Ahmir have cooled off as a couple since her return from New York City.)
I was on my cell phone this morning and I was sent a recommendation for an article about Jazz Jennings' original name change. Of course, I can't find that article anymore. But I learned for the first time that Jazz Jennings isn't her actual name. She was born Jared, but eventually began transitioned to the name "Jazz" when she began transitioning to life as a girl.
What I didn't know until this morning -- though it's not anything new -- is that "Jennings" is not her actual last name. Her parents introduced "Jennings" as a fake family name in an effort to protect the family's privacy. And they are very strict about keeping it a secret. Which makes a lot of sense given how closely they track her cell phone and social activities even now that she's 18-years-old.
