One of the reasons was that people kept confusing the LGBTQ Resource Center with the UI LGBTQ Clinic, which is a health clinic that treats the unique medical care needs of the LGBTQ communities.
But there were also concerns that "LGBTQ Resource Center" wasn't fully inclusive of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Apparently, the Resource Center began receiving several harassing phone calls, which helped initiate conversations about the name change. But they ultimately decided that "LGBTQ" isn't inclusive enough for the populations served by the Resource Center.
One thing that I like about the new name is that "pride" allows for the evolution of newer, more nuanced sexual orientations and gender identities. It is an interesting way of changing the name into something more inclusive by simply using a term that's commonly associated with the various LGBTQ+ communities -- well, except for these folks!
