Archie Comics fans learned that The CW has ordered four new television pilots, including the pilot for a new "Riverdale" spin-off series! The spin-off series is "Katy Keene" and it features the long-running character by the same name. In this adaptation, Katy is Veronica's cousin -- something that I'd forgotten about, but revealed nearly two years ago(!!).

We haven't been given much information about "Katy Keene" except for this little blurb:
It follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters— including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. This musical dramedy chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.
I spent quite a bit of time on Twitter last night wondering which "iconic Archie Comics characters" that we might meet in "Katy Keene." My initial thought was that we would meet characters like Sis Keene, but she's not really iconic. That leaves us with other iconic characters like Suzie and Ginger Snapp and Wilbur Wilkin and Jinx.

Then this morning, I remembered a fairly significant female character who still hasn't appeared on "Riverdale" even though we're in the second half of season three: Nancy Woods! Nancy has been a regular Archie Comics characters since 1976. She's their first ongoing black female character. But she's been complete removed from "Riverdale." What do you wanna bet that they saved the Nancy character with hopes of using her in this potential spin-off series?

Here are my official guesses for the "Katy Keene" iconic four (plus one) leads:

  • Katy Keene -- aspiring model
  • Nancy Woods -- aspiring reporter/writer/artist
  • Jinx Holliday -- aspiring musician
  • Suzie -- aspiring jill-of-all-trades
  • Catfish Joe -- their redneck gay BFF

Okay, Catfish Joe is a complete long-shot. I can't even find websites devoted to this character -- which seems like a challenge to me. I just love him. Who doesn't want to pal around with a hunky gay redneck?

I don't even know if Suzie has an official last name. In a contest between Suzie and Ginger, I'll have to choose Suzie. Ginger always seemed like a boy-crazy red-headed Archie Andrews copycat. Suzie didn't have a lot of talent, but she was always trying new jobs and getting into all sorts of mischief. I think that could be a lot of fun on TV!
