In case you don't remember, Kim Davis became national news back in 2015 when she took a stand against same-sex marriage. Keep in mind that she had just been elected as county clerk and was responsible for processing marriage licenses for the people of her county (otherwise known as her constituents). Not only did she refuse to process marriage licenses for same-sex couples, but she refused to allow any of her staff to do it -- even though there was at least one staff member who was fine with it.
A gay couple eventually sued her and her office. She was ordered by a court to do her job. She refused. She was held in contempt and jailed for a few days, making her a huge martyr for Christian conservatives. Things eventually settled down after she finally allowed her one staff member the ability to process same-sex marriage licenses.
Anyway, Kim Davis lost her reelection bid tonight. She was running against a Democratic opponent named Elwood Caudill Jr. He had run against her back in 2014 and had lost to her by 23 votes in the Democratic primary (Jon's Note: Davis used to be a Democrat, but switched to the GOP because of the same-sex marriage thing.) Davis ended up losing by roughly 650 votes tonight.
