My Morning at the 2018 Iowa City Metaphysical Expo

I was busy all afternoon at work, so I didn't get to spend as much time at Iowa City Metaphysical Expo as I would have liked.

I was walking between the two buildings this morning (from the lecture hall to the exhibition hall) when some guy pulled up in his car and asked me, "What's a metaphysical expo?"

I told him that it's a gathering for people who want to explore more about what lies beyond the physical world. I told him that people can get psychic readings or get their chakras cleansed or get their auras photographed. They can buy wands and books and crystals and oils. Or they can attend classes and learn something completely new.

The Iowa City Metaphysical Expo happens every year at the Johnson County Fairgrounds. It's inexpensive to enter ($5) plus free parking. Plus each day is filled with free speaking events and gallery readings. The exhibition hall was full of everything from psychics to shamanic healers, from Reiki practitioners to chiropractors, and several shops that specialize in oils, crystals, wands, candles, and books. It was unfortunate that I only got to hang out for an hour or so.

I always try doing something new and different at these events. This year, I went to a demonstration of crystal singing bowls by Jeet Saini from Om Gifts for Body & Soul. We learned about the healing effect of sound on our bodies and souls this morning. Through Saini and her crystal bowls, we were immersed in sound for roughly 20 minutes. Each bowl was specially designed and arranged to target each chakra. I find sound healing to be relaxing and calming and it was a joy to experience.

As noted before, I had to work this afternoon so I didn't get to stay as long as I would have otherwise. I haven't heard when the next expo will occur (and I'm assuming there will be another expo), but you can bet that I will be there!
