| Archdruid Angela Wilson -- Not opening a portal to hell |
The Wayist Druidic Order Samhain will be held from 3-6 PM in Athens, TN. It's being organized by an Archdruid named Angela Wilson and is organizing the first ever event of its time -- at least in Tennessee -- in order to celebrate the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. She isn't trying to convert people, but does hope to educate others about her belief system.
According to this news article, the city of Athens has no problem with the scheduled event. That's the official response.
However, the local Christian communities aren't quite so welcoming of the Samhain ritual. In fact, they are outright freaking out! I've learned that the McMinn County Christians are planning prayer rally on the Courthouse steps to pray away any and all evil influences. Still others are threatening violence if the druids don't call off the ritual!
I obviously won't be at this event. Nothing like a 730 mile distance (each way) to make one reconsider! But I can't wait to see how things turn out afterwards!
