The David Platt rape story line appears to be wrapping up on "Coronation Street." Several months ago, Josh spiked David's alcoholic drink with GHB and then raped him (See here, here, here, here, here, and here for more information). Since that night, David has been an emotional wreck. He initially isolated himself from his family and girlfriend. He physically assaulted Gary. And he repeatedly found himself triggered by Josh's ongoing presence in the neighborhood. He eventually told his girlfriend Shona about the rape, as well as other members of his family. And he eventually spoke to the police.
Of course, there was little evidence at this point. So the police had to let Josh go.
David continues to struggle. He recently began stalking Josh. It seems that Josh has a new friend and David is afraid that he will rape this man just as he's raped David and this other guy named Dec.
David was confronted by his friend Billy about his behavior and guilted into returning home. The problem is that Billy didn't take his own advice. He decided to approach Josh's new friend (Jon's Note: I can't remember his name so let's called him Smokey). Billy told Smokey that Josh is a rapist and that he'd drugged one of his friends. He then left Smokey at the restaurant.
It turns out that Smokey ended up violently confronting Josh. He discovered that Josh was carrying GHB on him and beat the rapist badly. Like bad enough to land Josh in the hospital on life support!
The police eventually contacted Billy about the assault and he eventually told David and Shona about his interaction with Smokey and about the assault.
David immediately went to the hospital to confront his unconscious attacker and had a pretty kick-ass monologue, which appeared to help him resolve some of his own inner demons:
Still, I'm glad that Josh is finally getting some payback. And I'm glad that David continues to heal from his trauma.

I've been meaning to have a word with you for some time now... I'll never forgive you for what you did. I thought you were my friend. I wonder if this is how you felt when I was unconscious. You could do what you wanted to me. Just like I can do what I want to you. Wonder what would happen if I switched this machine off? Or pull these wires out? You couldn't stop me. Just like I couldn't stop you. I'd love to watch you did. I've fantasized about how I'd kill you. I probably wouldn't have chosen to do it like this, but it'll do. Just to know that you're not here any more.I've already gotten some upcoming plot-points spoiled for me so I know that at least one person will begin visiting Josh -- and David likely won't be happy about it. It's still not clear to me if Josh will survive this story line and I'm trying to limit my exposure to spoilers.
You see, the thing is, Josh, if I was in here... I'd have people come and visit me. My mum, my brother and sister, Shona and the kids. You know? The nurse said that you've not had one person come and visit you. Not one! You really are all alone, aren't you? I pity you. I do. But, at the same time, I want you to die. I want you to die so much. But it's not me who is gonna do it. I've got too much to lose. I've got a life to live. And I'm not going to throw that away because of you.
Still, I'm glad that Josh is finally getting some payback. And I'm glad that David continues to heal from his trauma.
