The Iowa State Supreme Court unanimously affirmed a lower court decision on April 3, 2009, that found the state's Defense of Marriage Act to be unconstitutional, which paved the way for gay weddings. But those weddings didn't begin right away. Gay and lesbian couples began legally marrying in this state four years ago today.
