I have to say that I'm a bit confused from the start. This story happens some months ago, between the final issue of the first UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL series and the first issues of the second UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL series. I guess you can tell because Nancy's hair is still black. I just don't see why it's set in the past. Maybe they said something and I missed it. I dunno...
Anyway, our favorite girl with squirrel-based powers meets up with our favorite surly duck after he attempts to steal Nancy's cat, Mew. He's on a case to find a missing cat, but can't tell cats apart. Nancy quickly gets her cat back and Squirrel Girl agrees to help Howard find the missing cat.
But they quickly get interrupted when Kraven the Hunter shows up to kidnap Howard!
It turns out that he's collecting creatures like Howard (and Rocket Raccoon and Beast) for a crazy rich lady named Shannon Sugarbaker. It seems that she wants to hunt people, but since that's illegal, she has settled on hunting anthropomorphic animals instead!
Ms. Sugarbaker has an assortment of working superhero weapons, plus a whole slew of Cosplay Doombots, at her disposal. Can Squirrel Girl save the day? Or is she too much of a squirrel to avoid being hunted??
Incidentally, remember when Marvel Comics introduced us to Ratatoskr the Norse Squirrel God? Looks like we now have a squirrel with Wolverine-like powers named Weapon II running around the Marvel Universe! How cool is that??
