DC Gay Wedding in the Works

Archie Comics and Marvel Comics both witnessed gay wedding ceremonies for two of its prominent gay male characters back in 2012. Now it looks like DC Comics will be spotlighting a gay wedding for one of its prominent lesbian characters. Readers of DC's BATWOMAN #17 will be treated to the title's main character proposing to her longtime girlfriend:

(I)n Batwoman #17, published today, Kathy Kane, the Batwoman, DC’s leading lesbian lady asks Maggie Sawyer, Captain Sawyer, her secret girlfriend to be her wife.

No idea how well that’s going to go down. And you have to read the build up to this – and the rather dangerous epilogue. There’s no guarantee we’re going to hear wedding bells.

But I think that’s a story. I’ve been talking about how much I love this comic for some time, I think it’s DC’s best. Now I’ve just been given another reason.

I'm not a BATWOMAN reader. I have gradually dropped all DC Comics over the years for a variety of reasons. But I have a lot of friends who absolutely rave over BATWOMAN month after month. I'm also curious if Kathy and Maggie will actually get through their wedding ceremony -- much less their first anniversary!! -- unscathed. But it should be a fun ride.

By the way, this isn't DC Comics' first gay wedding, though it certainly features more prominent characters than their last gay wedding.
