Scattergood Friends School is a nearby Quaker-based, college-preparatory boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12. It is based in nearby West Branch. For a pricey boarding school, they are pretty diverse. They serve up to 60 diverse students from across this nation as well as from other countries. In addition to their studies, students work on the school's farm and campus. Most of the food that the students eat is actually produced on their farm.
I've known about Scattergood Friends School for years, but only began thinking about it last summer when I saw a sign for the school along the Interstate. I began researching the school and found that I really like it and wish that I could have gone there myself when I was younger. Recognizing that there's no way that we could afford tuition for this school for our son, I began searching the web for negative stories about the school by other parents or former students. Outside of one comment on Youtube, I have encountered absolutely no bad reviews. In fact, Scattergood Friends School has been repeatedly pointed to as an example of one of the best of the Quaker-based schools in this country.
Despite my strong admiration for the school, it is extremely unlikely (for a variety of reasons) that I will send my son there as a student. But that doesn't stop you from supporting their financial aid program by eating tonight at Short's Burgers Eastside and then checking out their website.
