These billboards were purchased by the United Coalition of Reason, a nationwide nonprofit that supports and promotes American atheists and agnostics:
"It is provocative and eye catching, but it's generic," Rory Moe, coordinator for the central Iowa coalition in Des Moines, said of the message. "We're not attacking any religion. The idea is to reach out to like-minded individuals."The billboards will remain in these three cities through mid-December.
It seems like there were efforts to put up similar billboards in Cedar Falls, Waterloo, and Cedar Rapids, but the company that owns those specific billboards declined the message. Frankly, I'm surprised that they didn't purchase any space in Iowa City.
