I began writing about the "Archie: Riverdale Rescue" iOS gaming app back in October 2013. Since then, the game has expanded to PC users. It's an oddly addictive game where you are tasked with the improvement and beautification of Riverdale USA using a variety of recognizable characters, such as Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica. A big part of the game also involves building emotional bonds between the various characters, leading to romantic couples, BFFs, and overall friends. I thought it would be fun to discuss aspects of the game that I find exciting, disappointing, and/or note-worthy.
A few weeks ago, a new upgrade was introduced. It got rid of the Easter-related events, but it also made a few significant changes. It changed the music for the first time in nearly a year. I am still trying to decide if I like the new music. In fact, pretty much all of the sound effects were altered during this latest upgrade.
There was also a new addition that really rubbed me the wrong way when it first manifested: in-game advertising. Now everytime you start up the game, a little pop-up prompt appears -- featuring Pop Tate, no less! You are asked if you want to watch an advertisement for another game. If you tap the button, you are treated to a 15-20 second advertisement for another game. In exchange, you are treated to two sodas.
As noted above, I really hated this change when I first saw it. But then I realized that I can get two new sodas each time this gets offered to me. You usually have to purchase new sodas with actual money. And you need sodas in order to purchase buy-in characters. So I've warmed to the idea of the in-game advertising. (Besides, I can always ignore these prompts when they are offered!)
There were a few glitches when this upgrade began -- most of which have been corrected. One of these glitches gave us a future peek at six new characters! Since then, three of these new buy-in characters were introduced to "Riverdale Rescue." They are Shrill Prisston, Adam Chisholm, and Cricket O'Dell!
There are three other new buy-in characters (Smithers, Svensson, and Clay) who also will be appearing eventually, but I haven't seen them yet.
The last buy-in character isn't a person, but (in the spirit of Hot Dog and Runty), we now have the ability to buy Caramel into "Riverdale Rescue!" I'm not sure if she has any special talents, but I love having people take her for walks!
"Riverdale Rescue" also introduced three new buildings to the game: an arcade, a put-put golf course, and a high-tech science lab. They are all pretty shabby, so characters will need to spend some time upgrading these buildings.
This is my biggest complaint so far about the new characters (along with their homes) and these three new buildings: I barely had room for them! I ended up spending a lot of time getting rid of lots of trees and hedges. Plus, I rearranged some existing buildings in order to make these new buildings fit. Eventually "Riverdale Rescue" needs to expand the game space if they plan on introducing too many new characters and buildings!
Lastly, Kumi has a bunch of new missions. I ran out of new Quests long ago. So Kumi's new missions are pretty fun for people like me!
So those are the latest upgrades! Hopefully, we will soon see those three new characters. Once we do, I will share their images here.
