One of the things that has snagged my attention over the past week has been my youngest son's recent testing in Tae Kwon Do. He earned his brown belt last spring and has been practicing all fall to learn enough moves and knowledge to progress to the next level. Fortunately, he did well last week during his testing event, including the successful breaking of a board with his bare foot:

The semester wrapped up this evening with a D'Angelo and the other martial artists being awarded their new belts and being cheered on by their teachers, fellow students, and parents:

I had him pose later at home wearing his new red belt!:

The next step will be earning a provisional black belt. My understanding is that it will take at least two semesters of dedicated work to earn that belt -- and I believe that D'Angelo can do that!

He told me that he was so impressed during his first TKD class at the age of eight-years-old by all of the instructors, more advanced students, and TKD traditions that he vowed to keep working at Tae Kwon Do until he earned his black belt. I assumed that this would be a fad and that he wouldn't last more than a few weeks. Four years later, D' has totally proven me wrong. He has lasted longer than many and he's even had the opportunity to help instruct some of the lower belts during a period when he was recovering from a knee injury.

I'm extremely proud of my son and his ongoing accomplishments. Congratulations, D'Angelo!
