During my free time, I've been exploring various public domain comic book publishers. Basically looking for interesting PD characters. I found this interesting character named Asptha, who is queen of a secret kingdom of snakes who live underground on a remote island. This is her story.

Her story begins and ends way back in 1953, in a comic book titled FANTASTIC FEARS #4 that was published by Farrell Publication. A rich man named Lawrence Mason built a huge house on a secluded island. The story says that ht lived by himself, but he shared his home with a butler named Williams.

Mason spent his days killing snakes. The island was infested with snakes and Mason hated them. But of course he refused to leave his island get-away. So he forced himself to remain in an environment completely stressed him out. Because why wouldn't you?

One rainy night, Mason was startled by the appearance of a mysterious woman outside of his home. Instantly attracted by her beauty, he ushered her into his home and had Williams make up a room for her. He discovered yet another snake in his home after she left the room. He quickly killed the snake and vowed to keep the snake infestation hidden from the woman.

Of course, there are hundreds of snakes on this island. Young Asptha would have to be blind not to notice them, which she isn't. She woke to Lawrence Mason shooting dozens of snakes in his front yard. And because she's not deaf, she went to the sound of the shooting and discovered Mason shooting snakes with his pistol.

Mason confessed that the island is infested with snakes and that he has dedicated his existence to eradicating every one of them. I'm guessing that he might have thought that his boasting would impress the lady, but she instead because quite stoic.

Despite the snake infestation, Mason and Asptha decided to go for a walk on the island. She quickly stumbled into an underground cave and Mason chased after her. He found her and tried leading her from the cave, but Asptha told Mason that she wasn't leaving. He began dragging her from the cave despite her protests when the two were suddenly surrounded by hundreds of poisonous snakes.

As the snakes quickly bind Mason and inject him with their collective venom, Asptha transforms into a giant snake. She tells him that she is the queen of the kingdom that he'd sought to destroy. She told him that the snakes loathed him and that they would gladly snuff out his life.

Asptha later told her snakes that it was over and Mason was gone -- seemingly forgetting that Williams was still sitting around the house twiddling his thumbs. She then warned her legions that other people would come and the snakes would need to be prepared to rise up and destroy those people too.

Asptha was never seen again, which was a real shame. She's actually pretty cool for a golden age female character -- villain or not.
