I do not get to watch "The People's Court" often due to work. It airs during my lunch hour and usually any episodes that get uploaded onto YouTube get yanked. So you need to be pretty quick if you're lucky enough to catch an episode on YouTube.
I've had the entire day off from work due to some doctor appointments. And it turned out to be the perfect day because there's a really unique episode of "The People's Court" on YouTube today.
The episode itself is titled "A Case of Mistaken Identity." In it, a plaintiff named Donna Colado is suing a contractor named Nelson Raposo for $2000 in damages related to shoddy work on her porch. But the episode starts out with only the plaintiff in the room. Because the Nelson Raposo who was sued and brought to "The People's Court" argued that he is definitely not the Nelson Raposo who did shoddy work for Ms. Colado!
The defendant was dramatically brought into the courtroom after a brief summary of the plaintiff's complaint. And Ms. Colado immediately realized that Mr. Raposo was not the man who did work on her porch! She initially suggested that maybe he was brought in as a fake Nelson Raposo, but Judge Marilyn Milian quickly dismissed that question by looking at his photo ID.
Keep in mind that Ms. Colado had spoken to this Mr. Raposo several times prior to coming to court. He had consistently told her that she'd gotten the wrong man. He'd even sent a selfie of himself to her phone. But she refused to believe that she was speaking to the wrong man. Heck, she even posted a negative Yelp review for his painting business and accused him of being a thief!
Not surprisingly, this Mr. Raposo filed a counter-suit against Ms. Colado for the negative review and for the ongoing harassment. He ended up winning his counter-suit, though didn't receive the $5000 that he originally asked for. Judge Milian decided that $500 was enough for damages. And Ms. Colado was ordered to remove the negative Yelp review. Which seemed fair enough for everyone involved in the case.
Obviously, Ms. Colado did not prevail with her case against this Mr. Raposo on "The People's Court."
We found out from Harvey Levin during his post-trial wrap-up that Donna Colado followed up in small claims court against the correct Nelson Raposo and she was successful with her case against him.
