Substitute Teacher Fired from Utah School for Telling Boy That His Upcoming Adoption by Two Dads Is Nothing to Be Thankful For!

I'm slow to the gate with this story. I kept stumbling across a headline about a substitute teacher in Cedar Hills, UT, who was in hot water for telling a classroom of fifth graders that homosexuality is wrong. It was the holiday weekend and I guess I made the assumption that a future martyr-wannabe was going to go on the religious liberty circuit for expressing an unpopular opinion.

And she still might try.

But this story turned out to be so much worse than what I assumed. It seems that the unidentified substitute teacher was asking the kids to talk about what they are thankful two weeks ago. And most of the answers were things like family pets and getting time away from school for the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

One of the boys told the classroom that he was thankful that he was finally getting adopted by his two dads.

Which prompted the substitute teacher to quip, "Why on earth would you be happy about that?" He then reportedly lectured the students about homosexuality being wrong and that "two men living together is a sin." Other kids asked her to stop, but she kept going on and on about the sinfulness of homosexuality.

Finally, three girls left the classroom and sought assistance from the school's principal. The situation continued to escalate, leading her to be escorted from the school itself. According to media reports, she was still arguing with school officials about her beliefs against homosexuality. In fact, she reportedly tried blaming the 11-year-old for triggering her with discussions of his own family in the classroom.

According to one of the boy's pre-adoptive foster parents, the boy was fearful of saying anything for fear of upsetting his dads and getting them to call off the adoption. Did I mention that he's already had two failed adoptions? Which isn't going to happen, in case you were worried. The adoption is scheduled for December 19th.

This substitute teacher won't be teaching again at this particular elementary school. But she will likely substitute teach at other schools in Utah.
