Let's start with my excitement about discovering that there's a Jamaica in southwest Iowa. I had never heard of it until this year. It's been around since 1882. It has an estimated population of 218 people. It's cultural claim-to-fame happened about ten years ago when Slipknot filmed the "Psychosocial" music video and recorded their album, "All Hope Is Gone," in the town.
Mayor LaDonna Kennedy ended up getting charged with various drug charges. She resigned after her arrest.
Kennedy was eventually pleaded guilty to controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp charges. Late last week, she was sentenced and given a deferred judgement. She's been sentenced to two years of probation. Under the deferred judgement, her conviction can be removed from her record if she successfully completes the terms of her probation.
Her husband Randy Kennedy also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended, and two years of probation.
