I wrote that I would let you all know what we were up to last weekend and here is that blog post. Husband Mark and I ended up traveling to Walnut Grove, MN, and attending the "Little House" TV Cast 45th Anniversary Reunion!
There were originally supposed to be eleven cast members at the event. Unfortunately, Hersha Parady (who played Alice Garvey) and Stan Ivar (who played John Carter) were both unable to attend due to conflicts.
But it was wonderful to see nine cast members from the show, including Alison Arngrim (who played Nellie Oleson), Dean Butler (who played Almazo Wilder), Sidney Greenbush (who played Carrie Ingalls along with her twin sister), Charlotte Stewart (who played Miss Beadle), Radames Pera (who played John Jr. Edwards), Wendi Lou Lee (who played Grace Ingalls along with her twin sister), Pamela Roylance (who played Sarah Carter), Lindsay Kennedy (who played Jeb Carter), and David Friedman (who played Jason Carter).
Let's get this out of the way: The "Little House" stars were wonderfully nice. Every time you saw them, they were friendly and engaging and appreciative of their fan-base. Over the course of the weekend, they did autographs. They did small group Q&A events. They did two separate 1.5 hour Q&A events in front of huge crowds. They attended luncheons with fans. They livestreamed several times for their fans. And they frequently bumped into random fans while out and about on their own time. And they were wonderfully accessible throughout! And for that, I offer my sincere thanks to everyone!
Keep in mind that Husband Mark and I aren't really into standing in lines on hot summer days. And I don't really have anything to put autographs on, so we spent much of Friday morning touring the Walnut Grove museum, including a covered wagon, a general store, a small church, and a one-room school house.
We had lunch at a small restaurant called Nellie's. The line took forever and they only take cash, but their grill ham & cheese sandwich was worth the wait!
I mentioned the all-cast Q&A session Friday evening, but afterwards there was an outdoor community theater production of "On the Banks of Plum Creek," which told the story of the Ingalls' time in Walnut Grove, MN -- which went well until their farm crop got destroyed by a plague of grasshoppers!
We only stayed Friday before taking off to visit family across the state, but we had so much fun in Walnut Grove. Not only were the stars amazing, but everyone that we encountered was friendly and willing to chat about "Little House" -- or pretty much anything else! I doubt that we'll return next year -- but we've already spoken about returning in five years when the 50th anniversary celebration gets scheduled!
