Multiple Cars in East Side Iowa City Damaged by Overnight BB Gun Vandalism

I was walking the dogs early yesterday morning when I encountered a couple from a nearby neighborhood who were inspecting their one vehicle. As I got closer, I noticed that their vehicle's rear window was completely shattered. Keep in mind that this couple literally just moved to the area less than a month ago. I apologized for their trouble and assured them that this sort of thing usually never happens around here.

Little did I know...

An hour or two later after I went to work, I began receiving messages via Nextdoor of other people around East College Street in Iowa City who had had their own car windows shot out by a BB gun or a pellet gun.

The initial person who reported this on Nextdoor said that the police had told him of at least six other reports of car windows being shot out. And it wasn't just East College Street. I heard of cars on Morningside Drive and Ginter Avenue that were damaged also.


Ultimately over 20 vehicles ended up being damaged over night.

The Iowa City Police are investigating these acts of vandalism and there was definitely a police presence around our home yesterday and last night. Fortunately, I'm not aware of any new BB gun attacks.
