Michigan State Police are investigating a car accident that occurred earlier this week involving an unmarked police vehicle and another. Fortunately for the civilian driver, the accident was caught on video by a neighborhood surveillance camera.

On Wednesday, July 3rd, an unmarked silver SUV driven by an MSP officer drove through an intersection, completely ignoring a stop sign. The silver SUV was immediately struck by a red car driven by 27-year-old Carlos Martinez. Both vehicles were thrown across the road by the impact.

Video footage shows Martinez exiting the vehicle and immediately forced to the ground and handcuffed until the ambulance arrived:
"All he kept saying was 'you hit a cop, you hit a cop, you hit a cop,' and at no moment say 'how are you, are you okay,'" said Maria Martinez, Carlos's mother. "No, they just handcuffed him like a criminal."
Martinez suffered scratches and bruises. The police officer who was driving the silver SUV suffered a broken rib and collar bone. His passenger was treated for minor injuries.

The MSP is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The driver of the silver SUV was released from a local hospital and hasn't been charged as of yesterday.

Meanwhile, Martinez's license and cell phone have been confiscated by the Michigan State Police.
