"Mama June: From Not to Hot" is slowly wrapping up. I'm assuming that next week's episode will be the season finale. The last two episodes have focused on Geno's increasingly abusive behavior and Mama June's increasingly dysfunctional responses to him. Honestly, I still can't figure out what happened.
Last season focused on June trying to talk Geno into marrying her. Then he finally gave her the adult version of a promise ring and June wasn't into that tepid form of commitment. And then everything fell apart. Her eating habits fell apart -- resulting in ongoing weight gains. She thought she was pregnant, but she actually had a false pregnancy of some sort.

Geno didn't want another baby, but June couldn't bring herself to tell him that it was a false alarm. Just before she finally broke the news to him, he got arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant. He came out of jail and freaked out once he learned that June wasn't pregnant. He began acting increasingly cold towards June, which led to her more frantic attempts to grab his attention, which led to him pulling back even more, which led to her increasingly panicked attempt to regain his affection.
And then her physical health problems began. Not only was she putting on weight again, but her legs and arms began swelling uncomfortably. Her tooth fell out. She cried all of the time. She would zone in and out. She apparently began having mini-strokes. And her family finally talked her into going to the hospital about midway through last night's episode.
Friday night's episode ended with June's family gathering to confront her about her health and her co-dependent behavior with Geno. (Spoiler Alert: It won't help.) But this season has really become uncomfortable to watch.
I honestly can't help but wonder if Geno got into (or back onto) drugs during that time in jail. Or maybe he had a preexisting addiction that just got worse during this time period.
That said, I don't blame Geno for everything bad that's happening in June's life. The truth is that June's physical and mental health began falling apart and his patience for it is pretty much nonexistent anymore. He told her several times at home that she needed to go the doctor. And her response would be to try seducing him. And then she would spit out a tooth while eating snacks.
He didn't respond well in these moments, but I can understand why he would push her away.
Here is another thing that happened on the show that made no sense to me. Two weeks ago, June's legs and arms were swelling up and she was experiencing a lot of pain. She went to the hospital and they prescribed her with muscle relaxers(??). I'm not a doctor, but why would they give her muscle relaxers??
Anyway, Mama June will storm out of her family's intervention next Friday. The rest of the episode will finally address June and Geno's more recent arrests and alienation from her family. This is how bad things have gotten. Pumpkin and Josh have taken Alana into their home, arguing correctly that June isn't capable of caring for her minor daughter anymore. And it looks like Alana will eventually find herself in the center of a custody fight between Pumpkin and Sugar Bear.
I can't help but wonder about the future of this show. Mama June is out of control right now. I honestly can't see WeTV continuing this show while it's title character actively struggles with addiction and domestic violence. I just can't. But I also can't see most of the rest of the family taking over as central characters.
