I don't watch "American Idol" much, but there is this wonderful clip circulating featuring a wonderful contestant named Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon and his original audition song, "Almost Heaven," which he performs for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.
During the two-minute introductory segment, we learn that Harmon is a young singer with a powerful voice. He works as a janitor in his father's church. He comes with a conflicted background, a young gay man whose Christian family loves him but pressures him to seek a life of forced singledom. He feels conflicted in the Church, but enjoys working at the church... largely because the solitary life of a janitor affords him the ability to sing all day in the hallway.
He wrote "Almost Heaven" himself, which openly wonders if there is a place in Heave for all people -- including LGBTQ people. Both Harmon and his song were immediate hits among the judges. Which means that Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon is moving on to bigger and better performances!
