"Fuller House" Returns to Netflix With Its Gayest Season Ever!

It's hard to believe, but it's been a year since Netflix created any new episodes of "Fuller House." The fourth season dropped last weekend and I finally finished watching those thirteen episodes. Most of the season focused on Kimmy acting as a surrogate mother for Stephanie & Jimmy's baby, which means that future episodes of the program will address familiar themes involving new parents, poopy diapers, and sleepless nights.

That said, season four was a little more spicy than normal. In fact, it proved to be the gayest season yet of this never-ending sitcom! I'm not talking about the periodic jokes about the rarity of single straight men in San Francisco -- variations of which cropped up repeatedly in this season.

First, there was Season 4: Episode 8: "Driving Mr. Jackson." In it, DJ's business partner and former fiance Matt ended up winning a prestigious community award. Stephanie objected to him winning instead of DJ and made an off-hand comment about some unspecified period of her life when she had a girlfriend!

Keep in mind that the entire exchange came off like a funny ad lib by the actress. Everyone cracked up and it came off as a hilarious yet unpolished joke that production decided to include in the final episode. But it makes one wonder if there's potential to meet up with Stephanie's former girlfriend in a future episode of the program One can wish, right? Anyway, check out this clip. It was much funnier in video than it was portrayed by my screen grabs!

More seriously, viewers were introduced to a new gay cast member named Casey in Season 4: Episode 11: "It's Always Open." Kimmy hires an obviously gay high school intern for her party planning business and immediately decides that he would be a great boyfriend for her daughter Ramona.

Trust me... Ramona wasn't oblivious about his sexual orientation:

The two quickly become besties and decide to go to the high school prom together since neither of them have boyfriends in Season 4: Episode 12: "The Prom." Soon enough, Casey manages to pick out a fabulous dress for Ramona, picks out a flamboyant outfit for himself, and shows off blue finger nail polish. Part of me is miffed at "Fuller House" for not even trying to make the franchise's first openly gay character somewhat nuanced or non-stereotypical. Then again, it's nice that they are trying.

Ramona and Casey spend a few minutes dancing together when Ramona notices that that sexy Ryan Cooper is totally checking Casey out. He makes a half-hearted effort to stick with his new BFF, but quickly leaves Ramona to talk about himself and totally impress Ryan Cooper. And we never see or hear from Casey again...

Will we see Casey again if/when "Fuller House" returns for season five? One can only hope! I just hope that they do more with the character than portray him as a self-centered semi-narcissist who's overly obsessed with fashion and Broadway.
