I caught up yesterday with this week's "Coronation Street" episodes. Two things grabbed my interest this week. First, there was the conviction of Sally Metcalfe. Several months ago, Weatherfield's mayor found herself the victim of a conman by this guy named Duncan. He conned her into sending tens of thousands of dollars to a fake charity. She ended up quitting as mayor over this. Once he was captured, Duncan claimed that he was sexually taken advantage of by Sally and that the money theft was mutual. Sally was eventually arrested, convicted, and sentenced to four years in prison.
In recent days, her husband and sister have become convinced that Sally was sleeping with Duncan and they are royally pissed at her. Actually, Tim was an outright jerk towards Sally right before her sentencing. He told her that he knew that she cheated on him, that he was disgusted by her, and that he never wanted to see her again.
I know that we're supposed to feel bad for Sally, but she and her family did everything in their power to sabotage her legal defense. For example:
Second, there was the continuing story of Kate and Rana. You might remember that Kate and Rana proposed to each other last month. Almost immediately afterward, Kate began pestering Rana to become parents, leading to repeated trips to a fertility clinic.
Keep in mind that Rana really doesn't want to become a mother. At least, not right now. But Kate isn't listening to her. Rana finally told Kate that they are too young to be moms and that they should focus on other things -- like planning their wedding.
Kate took that to mean that they should adopt instead of doing IVF treatments. And of course, Kate burst into Rana's medical office during an appointment. Which caused Rana to really tell Kate to back off and stop acting inappropriately.
Kate gets drunk and begin commiserating with her boss, Robert. They both complain about how neither of their partners want to have babies. They end up secretly hatching a plan to merge his sperm with her eggs and see what emerges.
Assuming that Kate and Robert follow through with this madness, could this be the beginning of the end of #KANA? One can only hope...

I know that we're supposed to feel bad for Sally, but she and her family did everything in their power to sabotage her legal defense. For example:
1. Duncan had dumped a few thousand dollars in Sally's bank account shortly after he'd stolen the larger pot of money. Tim (her husband) noticed the money. Instead of telling Sally about it or doing something about the mystery money, he secretly spent the money on himself.Anyway, Sally is now in prison and her family has abandoned her. "Corrie" seems to wrap up their story lines quickly so it's possible that Sally will be home by New Years Eve.
2. Tim and his father found a burner phone hidden in their home. Before anyone could call the police, Gina (Sally's sister -- who is bipolar and who struggles with alcohol abuse) took off with the phone and chucked it into a drain. The phone was quickly retrieved by the police, but any evidence that might have protected Sally was destroyed in the process.
3. Tim began stalking Duncan. He quickly confronted Duncan and punched him.
4. Sophie (Sally's daughter) started a romantic affair with Paula (Sally's attorney). This affair did wonders for distracting Paula from her work.
5. Sally learned of Sophie and Paula's affair on the eve of a hearing. She fired Paula right before her hearing and unwisely represented herself in court. It didn't go well.
6. Sally, against Paula's legal advise, contacted one of her former colleagues at the city office. She called that woman and essentially chewed her out for talking with the investigators. Sally then got in trouble in court for intimidating a witness and ended up getting her bail revoked, sending her to jail.
7. Paula didn't bother to seek out alibi or CCTV camera evidence until the night before Sally needed to testify. It didn't go well.
8. Sophie convinced Sally during a phone call that she should fake an illness so that they have enough time to secure CCTV evidence from the hospital. Sally got herself beat up and sent to the hospital for treatment. Of course, the prison monitors their inmates' phone calls so Sally got caught.
