Speculation: Is "Coronation Street" Hooking Up Vicar Billy Mayhew With Date-Rapist Josh Tucker?

Josh Tucker got some payback last week on "Coronation Street" after Vicar Billy Mayhew told Josh's new friend to be wary. Billy told Ethan that Josh had drugged and raped his old friend David earlier this year. Ethan then confronted Josh and found a vial of GHB on his and then beat David's rapist nearly to death.

David and Shona -- heck, the entire Plath family -- are terribly excited about Josh being nearly dead. But Billy has been overcome with guilt ever since. He began doing a secret daily vigil next to Josh's bedside and was there when Josh finally resumed consciousness last night.

Of course, Josh is now blind. He's suffering from cortical blindness following his smack-down. Basically, his occipital cortex was traumatized from the fight and that's resulted in him losing his eyesight. It's possible that Josh's blindness is just temporary. But it could also be permanent. We won't know for a while.

To his credit, Billy was pretty direct about his involvement with his attack. Understandably angry, Josh blames Billy for his current predicament. And he continues to deny that he raped David. Billy reminded Josh that he can still receive God's forgiveness, but only if he's truly repentant. He then left on stew on things.

I have read speculation that Billy could face legal repercussions as a result of his involvement with Josh's attack -- including, possibly, prison time. But my own intuition is leading me down a different path.

I predict that "Corrie" is planning some sort of redemptive story line for Josh Tucker. He will finally accept some responsibility for his past actions and his vision will eventually heal -- possibly in the context of some religious conversion. Billy will become a caregiver of sorts and they will eventually hook up and become a couple.

Of course, this will cause trouble between Billy and Shona, and David, and others in the neighborhood. And it could potentially mess things up with his teenage daughter Summer. And it might even lead to more victimization against Josh himself as he attempts to negotiate the cobbles without his eyesight and amidst all sorts of enemies.

Of course, this is all speculation on my part. It's based on nothing more than a gut feeling. But for better or worse, that's where my not-unsubstantial gut is leading me.

Just putting this out there for future reference...
