"Coronation Street" Reveals How They Used Special Effects to Portray Jack's Amputated Leg

Sorry that I haven't been blogging much recently. I've been working on a project for an upcoming event and just finished most of the prep work this evening. (Yay!!!)

I continue to watch "Coronation Street" three evenings weekly. I wrote earlier this month about young Jack getting a bad infection that eventually became horribly septic. After a series of false diagnoses, he was diagnosed with sepsis and flushed with medications. Unfortunately, the medicine only helped so much. The doctors needed to eventually amputate his left foot and part of his leg in order to save his life. He and his family will now need to learn how to work around his new disability, including learning to use wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs.

Up until now, I would watch Jack sitting on the hospital bed, see his amputated leg, and assume that the actor's leg was tucked in a hole under the bed. Maybe it is most of the time for all I know. But there was this scene on Friday where Jack transitioned from his bed to his wheelchair and he clearly had an amputated leg in that scene.

Turns out that the "Corrie" production team used special effects to make Jack's leg look amputated. Check out these images:

I'm assuming that they won't be using the green sock all of the time, mainly when he needs to transition. Otherwise, his actual leg will get tucked away into special wheelchairs, couches, and beds. Still, it was pretty cool to watch.

You can watch the clip at this link.
