Netflix announced that it will be dropping the second season of "Dear White People" soon. This program follows a group of black students at a predominantly white college called Winchester. Most of the episodes focus primarily on one particular students.
Samantha White is one of the central characters. She speaks out against racial injustice through her radio program, titled "Dear White People," and has become a lightning rod of student activism. During the first season, she was secretly dating a guy named Gabe (AKA "White Bae") and chased romantically by Reggie. Not only does she rail against the campus administration and the leader of the politically incorrectly satirical magazine, "Pastiche," but she routinely clashes against her former best friend Coco and her former boyfriend/current student president Troy Fairbanks. In the midst of this is Lionel Higgins, the introverted gay student who finds his voice writing for "The Winchester Independent."
It would be easy to dismiss "Dear White People" as a shrill black-good/white-bad series, but there is a wide range of students portrayed in this program and they often approach life and race relations from cross-purposes.
Season 2 of "Dear White People" will drop on Netflix on May 4, 2018. You can watch the trailer here.
